Bananas Foster

Want to impress your guests?   Bananas foster is definitely the desert used to make an impression. Not only is it fun to make its delicious to eat.  Be careful with the flame.

For 2 people ()


  • 0.33 cup(s) firmly packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup(s) unsalted butter or margarine
  • 0.5 cup(s) creme de banana or other banana liqueur
  • 0.5 cup(s) dark rum
  • 4 bananas, halved lengthwise
  • 4 scoops rich vanilla ice cream
  • mint sprigs, if desired

Bananas Foster Directions

  1. In small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon with a fork; set aside.  
  2. In a heavy 12-inch skillet or flambé pan, melt butter or margarine over medium heat.  Add cinnamon-sugar mixture; stir until sugar melts. 
  3. Pour in banana liqueur and ¼ cup rum; cook, stirring, until syrupy and thickened, about 5 minutes.  Add bananas; lightly coat with syrup.  
  4. Add remaining ¼ cup rum. Swirl pan; ignite rum.  Quickly swirl pan.  Cook, basting bananas with sauce,  until flame goes out.
  5. Remove form heat, place 2 bananas slices on each of 4 plates; side by side.  Place a scoop of ice cream on top of each serving; drizzle with sauce. 
  6. Decorate with mint, if desired.  Serve immediately.
