Apple Bars

Simple, easy recipe.  Good use for fresh apples. I used Gala apples one time, another time I used the Granny Smith apples and they both came out okay.

Recipe

  • 0.25 cup(s) apple slices
  • 1 cup(s) water
  • 1 cup(s) sugar
  • 2 tablespoon(s) corn starch
  • 2 tablespoon(s) butter
  • 1 tablespoon(s) vanilla

Crust

  • 1.75 cup(s) oatmeal
  • 1 cup(s) brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 1.5 cup(s) flour
  • 1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
  • 0.75 cup(s) butter

Apple Bars Directions

  1. Crust: Mix until crumbly.  Reserve ½ cup.  Pack rest of mixture in a 9 x 13 pan.
  2. Place on top of crust: ¼ c sliced apples
  3. Boil together: 1 c water, 1 c sugar, and 2 Tblsp corn starch.
  4. Cook until thick then add 2 Tblsp butter and 1 tsp vanilla.
  5. Let solution cool.  Place over apples.  Pour reserved crumbs on top.
  6. Bake 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes or until brown.
